Actuala echipă Petrolul s-a născut la București în anul 1924, mai precis la finalul acelui an, atunci când forțate de considerente financiare cluburile Romcomit și Triumf au fuzionat semnând astfel actul de naștere al uneia dintre cele mai puternice echipe bucureștene din perioada interbelică, Juventus București.
Petrolul Ploiești a apărut prin transferul la Ploiești al echipei bucureștene Flacăra, în anul 1952. Ilie Oană, care vine la timona echipei galben-albastre după sfârșitul turului 1952 nu va reuși să salveze echipa, dar va ajunge în finala cupei, câștigată cu 2-0 de CCA București, actuala Steaua.

Pentru mine PETROLUL are cea mai frumoasa galerie din LIGA 1 pana in onoare, cu fani adevarati prezenti la orice meci, fie in liga a 2-a,a 3-a,a 4-a. Cu cele mai frumoase coregrafii.
